For more than two decades, names like John Cena, AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, and Randy Orton have represented excellence and longevity in professional wrestling. But as of right now in 2026, World Wrestling Entertainment finds itself entering unfamiliar territory.
John Cena has officially ended his legendary career in December 2025, tapping out to Gunther in his retirement match at Saturday Night's Main Event. After becoming one of the biggest stars WWE has ever produced, Cena's departure represented much more than one wrestler retiring. It marked the closing of a generation and childhood hero in professional wrestling.

AJ Styles followed soon after, wrestling his final match against Gunther at the 2026 Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. His career was celebrated again when The Undertaker inducted him into the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 during an episode of Monday Night RAW in AJ's hometown. Styles may be finished competing, but his wrestling legacy could continue in another way, in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, AJ stated he has begun training his oldest son to potentially follow in his footsteps while creating his own path.
Then came the final chapter of Brock Lesnar. Lesnar's rivalry with Oba Femi became one of 2026's biggest examples of WWE transitioning toward its future. Their battles stretched from WrestleMania 42 to Clash in Italy before reaching the deciding match at SummerSlam. Inside Hell in a Cell, Oba defeated Lesnar in the tiebreaker and officially closed the book on Brock's career. Afterward, Lesnar gave Oba perhaps the biggest endorsement possible:
"Brock Lesnar is the past. Oba Femi is the future of this business!"
It was a symbolic passing of the torch from one powerhouse to another.
With Cena, Styles, and Lesnar gone, Randy Orton and CM Punk now stand as one of WWE's last active connections to the Ruthless Aggression era. But even they can't wrestle forever. Eventually, somebody else has to step up to the plate. That leaves WWE fans with some major questions about what comes next.
But WWE may not have to wait very long to discover who is ready to lead its next generation. Bron Breakker and Oba Femi are officially scheduled to collide at Sunday Night's Main Event in a match centered around one major question: Who is the future of WWE? It's difficult to imagine two better wrestlers for that conversation. Breakker has the speed, intensity, athleticism, and wrestling bloodline to become a major star for years to come. Femi, meanwhile, has quickly developed into one of WWE's most intimidating young powerhouses and enters this matchup with enormous momentum after being positioned as part of the company's next generation.
But WWE's future isn't the only storyline creating questions. The Bloodline may be facing another family war. After recently losing to Jey Uso on RAW, Solo Sikoa was forced to return to Roman Reigns and his family. However, during his initiation on the August 17 episode of RAW, Solo made his decision clear. Instead of falling back in line behind Roman, Solo turned against his family and attacked Reigns. LA Knight eventually joined the fight after becoming involved in the confrontation with The Bloodline. Now we're left wondering what comes next. Could Solo's actions lead to another deeply personal rivalry with Roman Reigns? Could LA Knight and Solo form an unlikely alliance against Roman's Bloodline? And after everything this family has already been through, is this the beginning of another Bloodline civil war? Especially after Zilla Fatu finally making his WWE debut over at NXT this past Tuesday.
Will Bron Breakker or Oba Femi prove that he is the future of WWE? What happens next between Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa? And among WWE's entire current roster, who has what it takes to become the next generation's Cena, Styles, Lesnar, or Orton? The future of WWE isn't coming anymore. It's already here.
