Jelani Esco Imani (born September 4th 1999) professionally known as Laflair Van Gogh is a multifaceted artist from Atlanta, Georgia. The hip-hop recording artist, record producer, audio engineer, actor and singer has many skills partnered with the experience. In 2006, Laflair moved to Los Angeles and was casted as “Goby” in the Nickelodeon animated series, “Bubble Guppies”. Also appeared as a guest in various episodes of Disney’s animated series “Special Agent Oso”. As a multi-dimensional musician, Van Gogh has performed at various venues such as the “Apollo Theatre” in New York(2010) as well as the “Venetian Hotel” in Las Vegas (2007).
In 2015, Laflair teamed up with close friend, IZZY JONE$ and co-founded 888 Worldwide. Since ‘888 Worldwide’ was founded, Laflair Van Gogh has released four projects: “X.YTAPE”(2016), “A Sunflower Demon” (2017), “5 FT 6 INCHES” (2017) and “NVM3” (2017).
After over three years of continuous reconstruction, his latest project has finally arrived to the world in all of its glory. Laflair released “NEVERMIND3” on December 20th,2017. The first project of many but surely not the last, “NEVERMIND3,” is a multi-layered perspective, concept album. The thirteen-track album tells the story of a young man transitioning to adulthood as he battles the virtue and vice that can lead to either falling below or rising above.
Van Gogh utilizes his professional background of vocal acting for Nickelodeon’s “Bubble Guppies,” to showcase his full arsenal of skill. He does so by writing, composing, engineering and producing about 90% of the work. However, it doesn’t end there. The multi-talented artist, also designs his own striking artwork so that the visual representation of the recorded sound can be captured. “NVM3” has a southern hip-hop flare with lead singles like “I’m Me,” a tasteful interpolation of Lil Wayne’s “I’m Me”, and “Striped Shirt Cobain,” a nod of homage towards Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain. The down south sound is notably heard on his track, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” housed as a cover single to Nirvana’s cover of Lead Belly’s original tune, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?”
