WWE is bringing back one of its most iconic rivalries of the PG era, but this time, it's for the Undisputed WWE Championship. At Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, CM Punk and John Cena will clash once again in what has been said to be for the very last time.
Die-hard WWE fans know this rivalry dates back to the summer of 2011, or as the WWE Universe likes to call the "Summer of Punk." That year Punk dropped the legendary "pipe bomb" promo which included a raw, unscripted breakdown of WWE's corporate culture that blurred the lines between reality and storyline. It instantly elevated him into the main event scene. On July 17, 2011, at the Money in the Bank PPV in CM Punk's hometown Chicago, Illinois, he faced Cena in a match for the WWE Championship with his contract set to expire that same night. Punk defeated Cena and walked out of the company and the arena as the NEW WWE Champion.

Their feud would continue into Night of Champions 2012, when Punk, now in full heel mode accompanied by his new "Wiseman" Paul Heyman, retained his title against Cena in a dramatic match that ended in a rare draw. Each encounter layered more depth into their storyline, not just as competitors, but as representatives of two opposing personas: Cena, the clean-cut company face; and Punk, the rebellious voice of the voiceless.

Interestingly, their connection goes even further back at WrestleMania 22 in 2006, when an un-signed CM Punk made a brief appearance cosplaying as a Chicago mobster during Cena's entrance. Just a few months later, Punk officially debuted on ECW in 2006. starting a journey that would change the industry forever.

Fast forward to tomorrow June 27th, after nearly a decade away from WWE and an unexpected return, CM Punk is back and looking to take down the never seen, 17-time world champion once more. With two legends nearing the twilight of their in-ring careers, this match isn't just about the title, it's about legacy, closure, and perhaps redemption.
