Ladies and gentlemen, the host for the 91st Academy Awards is… Kevin Hart! In the midst of awards season, actor and comedian Kevin Hart, took to Instagram Tuesday evening (December 4th) to announce that he will emcee the 2019 Academy Awards. In the past, Kevin Hart has expressed his desire to host the major event and now will be taking the place of Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel hosted the show for the past two years, but has previously said that he will not be returning for a third year.
Despite Hart’s busy schedule with numerous television and film projects that him and his company, HartBeat Productions are working on, the multi-hyphenated star is excited for the opportunity and is ready to put on a show! The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star will be involved with the production alongside Donna Giggliotti who will be overseeing the production and Glenn Weiss who will be directing the event.
Hopefully with Kevin Hart hosting, his witty charm should help increase the show’s ratings. Last year the viewers declined to an all-time low of 26.5million from the recent high in 2014 with 43 million viewers. Since both the broadcaster, ABC, and The Academy have decided to make some changes in hopes to improve the show’s viewership. One of the changes consist of The Academy presented six to eight of the twenty-four awards during commercial breaks and edit the acceptance speeches into the broadcast. Hey, who knows maybe we will get to see a gold-dipped Kevin Hart handing out awards. The opportunities are endless! The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will be held at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California and will air on ABC network Sunday, February 24th, 2019 at 8pm ET.
