Russell Wilson Becomes Top Paid In NFL After Signing Record Breaking Contract Extension

Russell Wilson just locked in a deal that will make him the highest paid player in NFL history. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback, reportedly signed a $140 million contract extension with the team.

According to ESPN, Wilson and the Seahawks agreed to a four year, $140 million extension that includes a guaranteed $65 million signing bonus. The deal's annual salary of $35 million and signing bonus of $65 million are new NFL records, surpassing the previous benchmarks set in Aaron Rodgers' contract with the Green Bay Packers consisting of $33.5 million per year with a $57.5 million signing bonus.

The mega deal will keep Wilson, 30, under contract through the 2023 season. There's a no-trade clause in the extension, according to ESPN.

Since entering the league in 2011, the six-time Pro Bowler has become one of the best NFL players. He led the Seahawks to victory in 2014 for Super Bowl XLVIII and just missed winning a second Super Bowl the following year against Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. He has passed over 25,624 yards over seven seasons and has never had a losing season as starting quarterback with a career record of 75-36-1.

On Tuesday (April 16th), the QB made the official announcement about the commitment to the professional football team via Instagram. He took to the gram and posted a video of him and wifey, singer Ciara cuddled up in bed and said, “Hey Seattle. We got a deal. Go Hawks. But Imma see y’all in the morning.”
